Kateri Chambers is currently working towards completing her doctorate at Boston University while studying with Christopher Krueger. She can be heard with local groups including Boston University Baroque Orchestra, Boston University Baroque Chamber Ensembles, Canzonare, Harvard University Baroque Chamber Orchestra, and Harvard Early Music Society (Boston Musical Intelligencer Review called her a "skilled and sensitive player"). Previously, she studied with Dr. Stephen Preston at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She obtained her MMus in Early Music Performance in 2007 and is currently performing in Boston and around the Washington D.C., Northern Virginia, and Maryland areas. She studied traverso with Colin St. Martin at the Peabody Conservatory (B.M.)
and was heard performing with many of their Early Music ensembles (Peabody Renaissance Ensemble,
Peabody Broken Consort, Peabody Baroque, and Baltimore Baroque Band), as well as performing regularly with her traditional Irish music ensemble Ash & Rowan and
with her own Early Music ensembles (Ensemble Chaeron and Flûtes Caquets).
She hails from the San Francisco Bay Area where she
studied traverso, modern and renaissance flutes, recorder, and voice with Kathleen Kraft, Michelle Caimotto,
Laurette Goldberg, and Joseph Bloom, among others. She continued her more modernistic
musical studies in the studios of Bonnie Lake, Janet Ketchum, Patricia Farrell, Alberto Almarza, Ethan Stang, Daniel Holmes, and Dr. Lori Lind-Holmes. Kateri is primarily self-taught on renaissance flute (using techniques learned from her other wooden flute specialties, and extrapolating from early musical treatises), but she has worked briefly with Nancy Hadden and Michael Lynn. Her recorder teachers and coaches have included Gwen Roberts, Mark Cudek, and Louise Carslake.
Kateri is currently teaching private voice and modern flute lessons through Musika around DC, MD, and VA and traverso out of her home studio. She is also teaching and tutoring in a wider spectrum of fields through Classic Tales 'n Tunes and Wyzant in DC, MD, and VA.
Kateri is also known for her talents as an actor and dancer––skills which augment her performances.
